Liu starts with a simpler question: what should a learner study next, and what actually deserves to count as progress?
Daily check-ins can feel like progress even when the vocabulary underneath them is not sticking. Time in an app and durable recall are not the same thing.
Word lists and flashcards pile up quickly. Without a clear progression, it becomes harder to know what to learn next and what actually needs another review.
Extra practice can be useful without meaning mastery has increased. A learning system should distinguish between seeing a word, practicing it, and remembering it over time.
The Liu approach
Liu combines spaced repetition, varied retrieval, contextual practice where content is ready, and progress signals grounded in real review history.
Work through structured HSK vocabulary tracks without having to build and manage your own study system.
Sentence-based practice appears only when Liu can verify the content needed for a clear question. Otherwise, Liu falls back to safer retrieval formats.
Scheduled reviews prioritize what needs another pass, while flexible practice keeps longer sessions useful without manufacturing progress.
Legitimate scheduled reviews drive intervals and mastery. Extra practice can reinforce recall without pretending more time has passed.
