Privacy
This notice explains how Liu uses cookies, local storage, and similar browser technologies.
Effective date: July 17, 2026
Cookies are small text records stored by a browser. Local storage, session storage, service-worker caches, and similar technologies can also remember information on a device. Liu uses these technologies only for the purposes described below.
Necessary storage supports core functions and remains available even when optional analytics is declined.
| Category | Purpose | Typical duration |
|---|---|---|
| Authentication and security | Keeps you signed in, refreshes sessions, enforces security controls, and protects account actions. | Session-based or according to the authentication-session lifetime. |
| Preferences and app state | Remembers settings, onboarding state, installable-web-app behavior, recap display state, and other choices needed to operate Liu. | Session-based or until cleared, replaced, or no longer needed. |
liu_analytics_consent | Remembers whether you allowed or declined optional product analytics so Liu can honor your choice. | Up to 12 months. |
With your permission, Liu enables PostHog first-party cookies or local storage to measure signup, onboarding, study, billing, referral, progress-summary, learning-recap, and product-performance activity.
Tracked activity may include selected page views, page exits, web performance measurements, and purpose-built product events. For a learning recap, those events may indicate that the recap was offered, viewed, completed, dismissed, revisited, shared, or followed by a study action. They may also include the slide category, entry point, platform, and broad usage buckets.
Liu does not intentionally send PostHog the personalized recap contents, highlighted vocabulary, raw learning history, raw study answers, raw word identifiers, custom-card content, search text, or the exact private data used to generate a recap.
The exact PostHog storage-key names may vary according to Liu's PostHog project configuration.
Optional analytics does not include session replay, heatmaps, or broad automatic click and form-field capture. Liu intentionally excludes the sensitive content described in the Privacy Policy.
Analytics requests are routed through Liu's first-party proxy domain, flow.goliu.app, before being delivered to PostHog's United States cloud region. Liu's PostHog project is configured to discard client IP data from analytics storage.
Liu's dashboards and personalized learning recaps are generated from first-party application records stored with your Liu account, not from optional PostHog cookies. These records can include daily aggregate learning activity, estimated engaged time, question-type counts, HSK-level counts, saved-card totals, and milestones.
Declining optional analytics does not disable these first-party progress and recap features. The Privacy Policy explains their use, retention, and deletion.
The first time Liu needs your analytics preference, it displays a banner with equally available options to allow or decline. Liu does not enable optional analytics merely because you continue browsing.
You may change your choice later in Liu Settings. Declining or withdrawing consent does not prevent you from using Liu.
Withdrawing consent stops future analytics capture. Deleting previously collected account-associated analytics is a separate action available through Liu Settings or by contacting support.
Liu keeps only the necessary consent record needed to remember your decision. PostHog capture and optional PostHog persistence remain disabled. Authentication, security, billing, learning history, dashboards, personalized recaps, and essential app features continue to work.
When consent is withdrawn after previously being granted, Liu opts the browser out of further PostHog capture and resets optional local PostHog identity and persistence where supported.
Browsers also allow you to inspect or remove cookies, local storage, and site data. Clearing site data may remove Liu's remembered analytics choice, causing the consent banner to appear again.
Questions about Liu's use of cookies or analytics can be sent to support@liu.app.
